When and why did you start the business?

On November 4, 1968, Pittsford Federal Credit Union, which was founded by a small group of teachers, was granted its official charter from the National Credit Union Administration. At that time, the Credit Union was run out of a classroom, in the Pittsford Central School District. At this time, the Credit Union serves members who live, work, worship, attend school or volunteer in Pittsford, Mendon, Honeoye Falls, Lima, East and West Bloomfield, Rush, Avon, Victor, Henrietta, Brighton, East Rochester and Perinton.

What’s the most fun part of running your business?

The most fun part of running our business is that we are able to focus on the best interests of our owners. The members are why we exist. Doing what is best for them as a group is our sole focus. We truly are here to help, with no distractions (such as performing to the requirements of stock holders, etc.).

Pittsford FCU has grown and remained strong through varied financial environmental challenges by remaining focused on our owners, consistent leadership, and a pervasive desire to create an environment that supports the balance between work and home life - which helps encourage long-term employees that have a clear understanding of who we are, what is expected and what our members appreciate most.

Name of business:

Serenity Homecare, Inc & Bridges of Mendon

Type of business:

Home Health Care agency and Home for Seniors

What does your business do?

We provide premium care for seniors in their home or our lovely home in the hamlet of Mendon.

When and why did you start the business?

I purchased Bridges of Mendon in 2003 and opened Serenity Homecare, Inc. in 2004. I was wanting to make a big change in my life, I had lived in the Ithaca area for most of my life and was really interested in the Rochester area. When the opportunity arose, I took it !

What is the most fun part of running your business?

I really love working with Seniors, they are very frank and open. I enjoy being a part of this community, Mendon/Honeoye Falls has so much to offer for small business owners. There is a wealth of support and knowledge to call upon, I had no idea until I began attending the Chamber of Commerce meetings.

What hobbies do you have?

I love to be outside, gardening, spending time on the water, spending time with my family (especially my grandchildren).

Personal information you would like to share about you (family, where you live, involved in school, etc)

My husband and I live on Seneca Lake on the land that he grew up on, I have 2 boys 25/30 years old and 3 beautiful grandchildren, ages 5,4 and 1.

What advice do you have for others and/or mottos you follow?

My advice to others is…reach out to people around you, meet your neighbors, attend functions where small business people in your business or your neighborhood meet and ask lots of questions. I have learned so much in these past 8-9 years. If I had a question/problem I would call on someone who I met that I felt could advise me and I gained much knowledge from this avenue. Also, you must have an “team” of people who are professionals in their field, who can advise you..a good accountant, lawyer, etc.
